The April 5 death of a Calhoun infant is being investigated by the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office, the medical examiner’s office and The Department of Children and Families.
“There was no sign of any physical abuse or any type of trauma to the infant,” according to Sheriff Glenn Kimbrel. “We don’t suspect foul play and we didn’t suspect it Saturday.”
The sheriff’s office responded to a 6:29 a.m. 911 call from a residence on SW CR 275 after an adult discovered the unresponsive infant in bed.
Capt. Emory Godwin, who was off duty, heard the call on his radio at home. He was the first on scene and performed CPR.
The four-month-old boy was pronounced dead after being rushed to Calhoun-Liberty Hospital by ambulance early Saturday morning.
The infant’s parents were not home at the time although there were adults and other children present, the sheriff said.
An official cause of death determination is expected after the results of toxicology testing are known.
