Friends and family gathered at Friday’s football game in Bristol to honor the late Jerry Johnson, who served Liberty County as a School Superintendent, teacher and coach for many years. The Bulldog Club presented the family with a plaque that read, “In Memory Of Coach Jerry Johnson, For 32 years of dedicated service, leadership, and loyal devotion to the students, parents, and citizens of Liberty County Thank you for leaving a legacy that continues through athletic and educational excellence.” He served as a coach and teacher from 1961 – 1973, was principal at Liberty County High School from 1974-1980 and 1992-1996. Current School Superintendent Tony Anderson said, “Coach Johnson passed away recently but his legacy will live on in this community for years to come due to his positive influence in our county, especially the education system. Through his dedicated service and leadership he helped chart the path of excellence in education and establish many of the Bulldog athletic traditions that we still enjoy today.”
