A 43-year-old Wewahitchka man died after being hit by a car while he was walking on SR 71 in Calhoun County early Saturday morning.
The fatality was identified as Carlee J. Daniels.
According to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol, Daniels was in the southbound lane of SR 71 at 12:32 a.m. when he was struck by a southbound 2001 Honda Accord driven by Tamika De’Shawn Gates, 28, of Blountstown.
On impact, Daniels went airborne, striking the hood and windshield of the car. He was thrown 25 to 50 feet before landing in the middle of the southbound lane, according to Calhoun County Sheriff Glenn Kimbrel.
He was pronounced dead at the scene by Calhoun County Emergency Management.
Gates sustained minor injuries in the collision and was transported to the emergency room at Calhoun-Liberty Hospital. Her car was totaled.
The accident happened approximately 200 to 300 yards south of the intersection at SR 71 and 73.
The fatal crash was investigated by Cpl. C.D. Chapman and Trooper S.E. Ellis.
Funeral arrangements for Daniels are incomplete at this time.
