Liberty County High School senior Nicolette “Nikki” Anico started her softball career at the age of five in Sunrise, playing with the Diamond Dolls. She immediately had a love for the game. At the age of 10 she was invited to tryout with a local area travel softball team, the Tallahassee Merchants. Her 10U coach, Casey Hutto immediately recognized her speed and placed her as the leadoff batter where she learned to bunt and get on base. Over the course of eight years Nikki had the opportunity to play with different teams and coaches and learned to read the field and find opportunity and winning strategies. On Monday, Nov. 17 she signed a letter of intent to play for the Rutgers Scarlet Knights Softball Team.
As a three year Varsity Starter, Nikki has led her team with a .566, .462 and a .509 batting average, with 22, 20 and 20 stolen bases. She has received the following recognition: All Big Bend, MVP, Offensive Player of the Year, Athlete of the week, Most Runs Scored and with her Travel Teams USFA 16U Champions (Team Aftershock – Sikes), Top Prospect Player of the Month (EC Bullets – Johnson) and she finished her 18U season with a .410 batting average (Tampa Mustangs – Conrad).
