A Marianna man who was allegedly following his estranged wife was arrested for battery after a friend came to her defense Sunday.
According to the report from the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office, James David Sellers, 27, got into an altercation with another man after his wife called for help.
The woman called the victim around 10 a.m. to report that her ex was following her and trying to run her off the road. She then drove to her friend’s home nearby.
Shortly after she arrived, Sellers pulled up and got out of his vehicle. The victim said he told Sellers to leave the property but he refused to do so and instead began cursing and came at him.
The victim said he was punched in the nose when he grabbed Sellers by the arm to escort him back to his vehicle.
Sellers then head-butted the other man and knocked him to the ground before he finally left. The incident left the victim with a bloody nose and mouth.
The woman involved said she and Sellers are still married but have been separated for two months. She said he had been following her on the road, driving aggressively, and at one point, stopped suddenly in front of her car that morning.
She said because she had her child with her, she went to a friend’s house nearby in an effort to get away from Sellers.
While Deputy Nate Jordan was interviewing the woman and the victim, Sellers returned to the scene, spoke with the deputy and agreed to meet with him at the sheriff’s office.
Sellers said he was following his wife that morning because he was trying to flag her down to give her some paperwork. He said when he arrived at the victim’s home, the man grabbed him by the arm to prevent him from leaving. He said he head-butted the victim in self-defense.
Sellers, who was arrested Dec. 21, was also on state probation.
