At 5:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 23, William L. Mercer, the inmate who escaped from the Calhoun County Jail on Saturday, was apprehended in Jackson County by the Jackson Correctional Institution and the Apalachee Correctional Institution K-9 Tracking Teams.
Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office, with help from Calhoun County Correctional Institution, Liberty County Correctional Institution, Jackson County Correctional Institution, Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, Bay County Sheriff’s Office, Liberty County Sheriff’s Office, Florida Highway Patrol, Florida Wildlife Commission, and the Blountstown Police Department, have been searching for the escaped inmate diligently since Saturday.
The search shifted to Jackson County late Monday afternoon following a tip from a citizen.
