They may have come home without the trophy, but their fans are proud that Blountstown High School’s baseball team made it into the 1-A state finals for the first time ever.

The team traveled to Ft. Myers last week, where they defeated Northview 7-4 on Wednesday at JetBlue Park. The team went on to face the Williston Red Devils Thursday but lost in a 3-0 shut out.

“The defeat was tough to swallow, but it was an experience we can hang our hats on and be proud of,” said Tiger Coach Emory Horne.

“The looks on the kids’ faces and the atmosphere was great,” he said.  “They responded really well and it was an amazing experience. I have coached them since they were young and glad we had a chance to go to state together.”

Horne knew going into the last game that it would be a tough one.  “We faced a pitcher who has only allowed two runs his entire high school career, and hasn’t been scored on in the final four in the past two years,” he said.

“It was a great experience for the kids, and we received great support from the community and surrounding cities as well,” he said.
