A Blountstown woman was pulled over after a Calhoun County Sheriff’s Deputy witnessed her driving over the center line of SR 71 and then off the edge of the road last Thursday.
Both she and her boyfriend, who identified himself using his brother’s name, were arrested after they appeared to be under the influence of something.
After stopping her vehicle, Melissa Hood, 36, got out and started going toward the patrol car but had great difficulty walking, according to the report from Deputy Jarrod Taylor.
Hood was slurring her words when she told the deputy she was having problems with her vehicle swerving.
Her passenger was asked to step out and after he gave his date of birth, it was discovered it did not match up with the name he had given. He was then identified as Billy Joe Mears, 36.
When both were asked to empty their pockets, Mears commented, “Man, I forgot about this” when he reached in his front pocket and pulled out a pipe. He stated that he had just smoked some “synthetic stuff.”
They were taken to the sheriff’s office but were unable to respond to deputies’ questions and appeared “very intoxicated,” according to the arrest report.
Both were charged with giving a false report to a law enforcement officer for trying to pass off Mears as his brother. It was also found that Hood’s license had been suspended and Mears was wanted on an active warrant for a probation violation.
Hood was granted a conditional release while Mears is being held without bond due to his parole violation.
